Why color is important?

The old photographers swear by black and white in streetphotography. I do not critisize them but with color it is more easy the emphasize what you want to tell. Joel Meyerowitz has made advantage of color in his photos. He grew up in a time when color started. Here a photo of him:

You can see how he uses the green of the dress of the woman again the green lightning in the shop. Green and orange always works fine as you can see here. Even the the small blue part in her dress has impact. This is because blue and orange are complementair in the colorwheel.

These colors are opposite to each other.

Even the blue air in the back ground the air is good seen in this photograph. He makes ues of the colortemperature as well in this late afternoon. It is a kind of golden sunlight at this time of the day.

When you want a contrasting photo use the Yellow, Red, Blue and Green. It works better when you use one dominant color.

One dominant color

Here a photo of Tomasz Kulbowski

Quite simple but the photo has a lot of impact. Not in the least with the repetition of the man who is reading in the back.

Use more colors

Here my photo.

I use here the red and blue because I like it together with the green background.

Actually you can play with it. As streetphotographer you can wait for a nice object who is walking into the frame.
